Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy massage is massage therapy but with highly concentrated plant oils, called essential oils, incorporated into the massage. Each therapist has different ways of providing aromatherapy. Some practitioners actually mix the oils into the massage lotion or cream. When I provide Aromatherapy, I usually incorporate it into massaging the face for ultimate relaxation.
The nostrils are attached to a part of the brain called the limbic system. The limbic system controls your emotions and influences your nervous system and hormones.
When you inhale essential oil molecules, messages are transmitted to the limbic system and affect heart rate, stress level, blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion, and the immune system. Many of my clients find Lavender oil to be their favorite, while others like a mixture of oils combined into one treatment.
